I had a chat the other day with a friend about my Lisbon pictures. She actually found them really cool, it pleased me of course, but also told me she was a little bit confused because of the mood of those shots. Ruins, old houses, broken windows, lost chairs, collapsed walls… Not a touristic approach… Maybe not a way to introduce a city.
But that’s what I saw… Or the way I saw it… Closely, feeling the spirit of that city… And it introduced me to inspiration… I actually started to work on lyrics this week-end, for the two songs I have to write in order to complete my ep due for october. Structures and vocals melodies are now done, only lyrics left…

I mainly wrote rough ideas, and thought about titles. The first one will probably be titled “Broken Windows”. Looking at yourself into the left parts of the broken glass… Then through the emptiness of the frame… Looking at what you shouldn’t… ashamed… Glad for I’ve got a solid sentence for the beginning, the end of the story just has to flow itself…
There you stood in front of me
Glancing wildly at every move…
The other one might be title “For Obscure Reasons”. Why you make some choices, but you can doubt about those choices… Not shure if they were relevant… I actually wrote a full page for those two ideas, but have to write more and organize them… And find the right flow that fits the melodies…
Hey somebody shot me at a party the other night. Ghostly spirit :

And you know what ? I finally found an album I’m digging. I’m listening to it right know while I’m writing this… Soap&Skin, “Lovetune For Vacuum”. Piano based songs… Ask Chan Marshall and Nico to marry, they could have that kind of baby… Darkness and melancholy…

I was eager to listening to the last The National album, out yesterday. I read so much good things about it.
I’ve been quite impressed by the first song, then lost interest. Disappointed by what I consider classic pop/rock music.
I actually had the same feeling about the last Beach House album. Pop, folk, I don’t know… But I didn’t dig it at all… The same with most of the things I hear about and listen to…
What a strange feeling… I don’t follow what’s hype anymore, and am inclined to more obscure bands and sounds… Up to listen to experimental, electronica, even alt hip hop bands (ever heard about Kill The Vultures ?)
All of this reminds me the question I asked in my last newsletter : What kind of music genre I can be fit into. Ok, it’s not that important, I’m going to write and record my own stuff, with no direct influence (I guess so)… It’s just it’s quite useful to know in order to introduce the way I sound, what people can expect to listen to before clicking the PLAY button… before clicking the NEXT button after five seconds…
It’s just curious to realize that my music tastes are changing, so it will be also with my own music. Something cooler, something noisier, or unclear structures ? simple pianos or complex arrangements ? I just know I’m quite bored by guitars… They’re important, I’ll still have to record some, but it won’t be the main instruments… Too pop rock… afraid of sounding like The National… well they’re a great band, great to see them live… it’s just I’m no more interested in that kind of music…
Anyway, here are some new pics from my Lisbon trip… I think next time I’ll have to change the subject…

And I’d love to thank Bob and Iniji : they wrote a short review of Untimely Tales on Amazon.com and Amazon.fr (just search Burzinski on amazon in order to find what they said). Thanks thanks thanks a lot !
Talk to you later…
