The Untimely Tales songs mixes are almost done. They’re in Los Angeles at the moment, waiting for Brian’s mix consultation at resonancemastering.com. Hope I won’t get much issues to work on…
So I spent some time shooting pictures with my cheap cellphone at night yesterday…

Clouds above trees…

Light in the park…

A sofa garbage in the street…

Narrow view from a house…
Talk to you soon…

It’s been a while I didn’t write anything here… As I finished the recordings last week I jumped into mixing the songs, which are now about half-mixed.
Volumes, frequencies, panning are almost set, i’ve got now to use automation tricks on volume and frequencies in order to add more dynamics.
The most surprising is the song I decided to choose for mix comparison. The goal is to have an overview of the different elements of the mix, and not being lost into issues such too many bass, muddy sounds, etc…
Surprising because I chose a different music style : “Scarlet Fields” from The Horrors… Well, inspired by Joy Division, produced by Geoff Barrow from Portishead… maybe not so far in a way… anyway…
What’s next ? when finished the songs will have to cross the Atlantic to Los Angeles for a mix consultation, then i’ll probably have to change a few things… Then mastering after that…
Talk to you soon…

I told you last time about pictures shot with my cellphone, or sometimes with a cheap digital camera. Well, i’m fond of black and white pictures, and would love to use some for the Untimely Tales art cover. But i’m not a pro photographer. I try to improve my skills the best I can, but I thought it was a good idea to find another solution.
So I met a pro photographer last week. We spent all thursday afternoon discussing about photography of course, then defining a style, based on what i’m doing, and overall ideas for each of the songs of the album, while listening to the rough versions. Just saw one preview, and it’s going to be awesome.
What about the recording, then ? I made another mistake, spending time on recording vocals, then realized it was a better idea to record them when the music is done, in order to get a better feeling.
I just finished all the arrangements, so only the vocals are to be re-recorded, by now… Stay tuned…
