A rythm section September 25, 2009

So, the Invisible birds EP is out, but it’s only an acoustic preview of some of the songs which are going to be featured on the “Untimely tales” album.

Well, i actually had to start everything again after trying different options on some of the songs… the main issue was about the drums. I first tried to program loops, but i felt it was boring… so I played / programmed the drum parts thanks to a keyboard, finally choosing different samples depending on the songs… Now it sounds more human and natural…

I also used to start playing guitars, but because it was the only instrument on the songs at that time, I played too many notes…

I actually had to record a solid rythm section for each song… drums, bass and a basic melodic mellotron track… I just finished this today… and i’m quite satisfied… I also found a fun trick on the web for bass recording… using a piece of foam on the strings, so the sound is dark and plain :

Then what’s next ? Vocal takes next week, then fine arrangements, including some guitar parts finally…

Invisible birds September 16, 2009

So i’ve been asked for some tracks in order to perform a gig in october (more details about it soon). The “Untimely tales” album is still in progress, so I thought it was a good idea to record a few songs with only two things : one acoustic guitar, one voice, reflecting what could be played live.

I took my sontronics sigma ribbon microphone, recorded three songs… here they are, on the right of the page, into the burzinski music player box…

Those 3 songs are meant to be featured on the upcoming album.
In the meantime, I keep on my recordings (well, i’m late, can’t make it for october, still too much to do)… talk to you soon !
