Living in Paris May 27, 2009

Narrow street… bikes… near “Le Café de la Danse”, a famous Paris venue… Smoking a cigarette outside… This place is the one I spend most of my time… day job… routine… Hey, it’s finished mid-june, for 6 months… Only 12 working days left…

Stairs… Home… sometimes up, sometimes down… Living on the fifth floor… No lift…

living-in-paris-2

Roofs… near Montmartre… early in the morning… just woke up… darkness fading away… thoughts…

Where Burzinski comes from May 22, 2009

I’m often asked where this Burzinski name comes from… Is it my real name ? No. Do I have any polish origins ? Actually yes… But i’ve got spanish and italian ones either… Burzinski is the last name of my grand-mother, just before she married to a polish guy born in Germany, who arrived in France at age 2, just before the frontier moved again to belong to Poland again… Still following me ?

Well, all of my grand-parents used to come to France when they were really young… Just before the first world war… So, technically, i’m half polish, a quarter spanish, a quarter italian… My real name is a spanish one, whereas i’ve got blond hairs and blue eyes… So, even if i was born in France, let’s say i’m a european citizen.

I don’t even know if I still have any family in those countries, I’m unable to speak spanish, italian, polish… it’s a shame, on the other hand I already spend a lot of time on improving my english… But it’s interesting to know some parts of me come from there… it’s some kind of a mystery…

Anything else ? My father was born in Algeria and leaved it at 16… But that’s another story…

Actually, all of this could be a good song idea ! I might think about it…

So what about you ? Where do you come from ?

Just a perfect day May 12, 2009

I’m not going to talk about Lou Reed… Not exactly… Well, this guy is the perfect songwriter, and I currently spend my spare time on songwriting…

So i’m focused on songwriting for a few weeks now… it’s a little bit frustrating sometimes because i’d like to perform some recordings as well, but i’m not convinced at all about doing different things at the same time…

9 songs written, another one almost finished. The process, actually, is almost always the same.

Music comes first. Playing some guitar, messing around, in order to get a strong, simple structure and chord progression. Then the voice melody. Then, last step, the lyrics writing. It seems i’m unable to write lyrics first… Maybe because it’s the harder part, for me… because i’m french and decided to write in english, even if I think it’s the best decision I had for a long time… then because I have to explore the darkest parts of my feelings and ideas… and this part is a little bit tiny… but sad, melancholic, dark songs are so beautiful…

Well, i’m a little bit late… I expected more songs written, one each week until mid june, but on the other hand it’s not that bad, considering I can spend only one hour everyday and one week end every two on it… 9 songs today, more to come… I just thought about what I said a few weeks ago : I planned an EP then an album… I’m just reconsidering it, i’m going to focus on the album first… i’m not shure to have enough material for two releases… not yet…
